Sun Moon Lake(日月潭) is in the middle of Taiwan, about three hours car-driving from Taipei City.
Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport(TPE) to Sun Moon Lake.
1.Take Ubus 705 to HSR Taoyuan station,then transfer to HSR Taichung Station,then take "Nantou Bus 6670".
Ubus 705 Ticke price:30NT,take about 20~30mins from Taoyuan Airport to HSR Taoyuan station.
2.Take "Ubus 1623" to TRA Taichung train station,then transfer " Bus 6670" to Sun Moon Lake.

Nantou Bus 6670 station is opposite the Taichung Train Station.

How to take a train to Sun Moon Lake?
Take public transportation
Two kinds of Trains in Taiwan:
1.Taiwan Railways(TRA):www.railway.gov.tw
2.Taiwan High Speed Rail(THSR):www.thsrc.com.tw
Note:
Taipei(台北)railway station and HSR Taipei station are in the same building called Taipei main station.
Taichung(台中)railway station and HSR Taichung Station are in different places.
Taiwan High Speed Rail Train(THSR) is Faster than Railways Train,but more expensive for sure.
Take a THSR train and get off at "Taichung Station",then transfer via 6670 bus to Sun Moon Lake.
This might take about 2.5 hours totally.
Nantou Bus 6670 THSR-SML(Freeway)：Sun Moon Lake-Puli-HSR Taichung Station-Taichung Gancheng Station.
